Children's Program Coordinator Job Description

Summary
Community Mennonite Church of Stouffville (CMC) is seeking a caring, enthusiastic Children’s Program Coordinator to enrich the lives of the children within our congregation. CMC is a small, progressive, vibrant congregation that meets at Parkview Village in Stouffville, ON. Children are an important part of church life, and CMC desires to put resources into their care and nurture. The successful candidate would provide childcare and/or programming (based on Mennonite values) to children during our weekly Sunday morning gatherings, as well as coordinate monthly events for families with young children. Terms of the job description are open to discussion and negotiation as per successful applicant’s interests and skills.

Description
CMC is seeking a caring, enthusiastic Children’s Program Coordinator to provide childcare and/or programming (based on Mennonite values) to children during our weekly Sunday morning gatherings, as well as coordinate monthly events for families with young children.

 

Duties and Responsibilities (negotiable)

  • Childcare and/or Sunday School during church (roughly 45 minutes) 3-4 times/month for JK – Grade 3
  • Coordination with others filling in on Sundays as needed
  • Occasional longer childcare may be needed (e.g. during congregational meetings)
  • Possible occasional assistance with children’s involvement in the worship service
  • Checking in with parents as needed to discuss curriculum (if applicable)
  • Coordinating with Enrichment Coordinator and/or council chair (or other appointed leadership)
  • Planning and implementing monthly gatherings with children and their parents
  • Overseeing purchasing of supplies with treasurer and leadership staff while adhering to budget
  • Collaborating with Enrichment Coordinator to plan for children’s involvement in annual events such as Candlelight service, retreat, etc.

 

Requirements

  • Experience with and passion for working with children
  • Knowledge of/respect for Mennonite traditions, values, and teachings
  • Police check/safe spaces training (can be coordinated upon hiring)
  • Be open and willing to work with parents, church leadership, and children to create meaningful, dynamic, engaging programming that is consistent with CMC’s mission statement

 

Terms

  • Roughly 5 hours/week on average
  • Location: on site at Parkview Village for Sunday mornings, local Stouffville monthly gatherings (location TBD). Prep time and meetings will be remote.
  • Compensation: $20-25/hour
  • Proposed start date: September 2023 (negotiable)
